Zen @ 2015/2016 Asian Le Mans Series – Chang Circuit
January 10, 2016
Participating in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia
March 2, 2016The race weekend started off well for Zen Low at Chang International Circuit, Thailand for the Asian Le Mans Series but luck ran out by the week’s end. Zen and his teammate, Shinyo Sano, enjoyed the circuit in the Wolf Racing GB08 CN managed by Atlantic Racing Team.
The Prince Lubricants car drove well during practice and qualifying, allowing Zen and Shinyo to set the fastest qualifying time in class to start the 3-hour race in a good position. The drivers were further fuelled by the intense support they received at the circuit from the large group of race fans, during the pit-walkabout, clamouring for autographs and photos with them. A second wave arrived in the form of Prince Lubricants’ fans that came from Malaysia and China specifically to support Zen.
It was a race weekend that was on its way to being a podium finish for Zen and the team, until the first half hour of the race.
“Again we were fastest in class and managed to set the fastest qualifying time in class. There were no issues during practice or qualifying and everything was well and smooth” said Zen after the race.
“Then, just half an hour into the race we encountered some engine issues in the Honda Mugen powered car, the car gradually slowed until we could not go any further, forcing us to retire the car less than an hour before the race ended”.
At this point in time, the Atlantic engineers are still unable to pinpoint the issues faced and have informed Zen that they will review the race data, post-race weekend.
Zen who was visibly disheartened with the way the race turned out, tried to remain positive, “it was a shame as we had a tremendous support from our sponsors and the race fans here who came out in droves to see us race. The people of Thailand truly love motorsport and it touched my heart to see them so passionate about the sport. I do love coming to Thailand and to be surrounded by such polite, excited and cheerful people is a wonderful experience, plus the food here is awesome.
“I would also like to thank my sponsors, Prince Lubricants, for always believing in me and for their tremendous support this weekend, bringing with them fans all the way from Malaysia and China to be with us at the circuit.
“Thank you also to EcoTint, Jonnesway, ActiveBugs, Rudy Project and Shark Helmets for always encouraging me to do what I love in a sport that we are all truly passionate about” ended Zen.
